We have worked with the owner of Startle for over 15 years now across all of their art-related businesses. The opportunity to open an art gallery in the popular tourist town of Holt in Norfolk was too good to miss, and so we set to work. Brainstorming over names, we all agreed on Startle with ‘remarkable art’ as the tagline.
We have cleverly highlighted the word ‘art’ within the name by outlining those three letters within the logo itself and created an interesting circular icon using the ‘remarkable art’ tagline. This icon is used at a distance from the logo and often is bleeding off the edge of the promotional item. You can see an example of this on the van’s signage here where the icon is bleeding off the edges of the bonnet and rear side of the van.
Once the branding was agreed, the priority was the signage for the gallery itself with design visuals for the gallery’s exterior frontage, doors, windows and the interior POS items that were needed ahead of the opening. Since the opening we have designed multiple print items including ‘meet the artist’ event invitations, product packaging, gallery brochures, promotional posters and lots more. There is always something to do be done!
The Startle gallery in Holt was so successful that, within a year of opening, a second Norfolk premises was found. This time it was in the thriving retail complex of Drove Orchards in Thornham. The turnaround time from getting the keys to opening was very tight, but we worked with the Startle team to create the new interior and exterior signage for this fantastic new gallery space. We also produced the opening day invites and other promotional materials to ensure everything was in place for another successful launch.
Startle has gone from strength-to-strength in Norfolk (seemingly unaffected by the tough economic climate), with two incredibly busy galleries and a strong online following with their website doing both UK-wide and international sales. We love working closely with the Owner/MD as his constant enthusiasm and drive to expand the business with new and innovative ideas in the art sector is fantastic to see. We are proud to be part of Startle’s continuing journey with lots of new exciting projects in the pipeline.
