Porthcew Dairy
Porthcew Dairy is a dairy farm on the South Coast of Cornwall. The lovely owners wanted to start selling some of their milk from their ‘Proper Cornish Cows’ direct to the public with the addition of a milk vending machine on the farm.
They contacted us to create the brand for Porthcew Dairy – this was a new name for the farm, so we were able to start from scratch on the branding. We also designed all the graphics for the milk vending machine, glass bottles, milkshake paper cups and a full set of signs for the farm to guide people to the right place and give them all the information they need.
We wanted the brand to be both engaging to the customer and also routed in the history of the area, which a timeless feel to the identity. This is why the logo features a graphic icon depicting the nearby tin mine, and the identity includes rolling hills and blue skies with their fluffy white clouds to capture the feeling of a typical Cornish farming landscape. The illustration of their herd of Holstein cows had to be very specific, even down to the shade of their pink udders!
Once the brand concept was approved by the team at Porthcew Dairy, we set to work on the branding for the glass bottles, paper cups for their milkshakes and of course the milk vending machine, which had a full set of graphics covering the front and sides of each section. We also created a series of different signs located in and around the farm to guide people to the milk vending machine, which is open 24/7. It’s also unmanned and so ensuring the instructions for using the machine were clear and easy to understand was very important. So far, so good, everyone seems to be managing to get their fresh milk and milkshakes and it’s been a great success, proving to be popular with both locals and tourists alike.
Since the launch, we’ve been working on some seasonal designs for their milkshake cups with a spooky Halloween design and a festive Christmas cup design too. This year-round venture is a great addition to the farm, and we wish them every success for the future. It’s been a fantastic branding project to work on…we just need to make the trip down to the farm to try the milk now
